What the hell was that noise!

Friday 1/27/06: Team Jodice arrives at 7:30am. It's a chilly morning with temps in the mid 20s. Doesn't deter them (much) from the task at hand. ....remove the porch. And remove the porch they do! JC & I had spent the night before stripping lighting & gutters from the porch, so all the guys had to do was swing their sledgehammers. A few loud bangs later came a mighty crash as the roof of the very well built porch came slamming down to the ground. Sustained a few cracks in the interior walls, all in all, not bad. All that was left was to remove the remaining porch components & rear deck and the boys were done for the day before noon! ....not a bad way to end the week!

As a parallel task, JC & I needed to relocate all the CDs (argh!) & remove the built-in CD rack from the west wall of the basement in order for a new supporting wall to be built the length of the house. This is to replace the non-conforming adjustable Lally columns in the basement. The new wall will allow us to build a much-needed larger office in what is now the family room.

OMG! It's really happening.

As threatened, Jodice & Sons shows up ON TIME at 8am on Thursday (01/26/06). First order of business, locate the ever-elusive sewer line. ...it wasn't exactly where the town marked it.  The sewer line currently exits the back of the house and horseshoes down the driveway out to the street. The plan is to tap the line 1/2 way down the driveway and poke it through the south wall in the basement. Right in the middle of the finished family room! YUCK! A few frustrating hours later, the "boys" finally locate the pipe right under the middle of the finished driveway. ....I see a new driveway in our future.

Meanwhile, the destruction of the "dog house" entrance into the basement started as did the dismantling of the Sears porch kit. (Apparently, we're driving the porch down to PA where it will be resurrected at Dad's) Casualties to date: The Hosta in the driveway & a trash can lid killed in a backhoe hit-n-run….

The Dumpster arrives!!

Saturday, 1-21-06, the sound of an empty 30 yard dumpster rumbling down School Street jostles the neighborhood out of bed. Kudos to Barry Brothers Disposal
for their prompt & courteous service! ...not a single tree was harmed during the delivery of this bad boy!!

So it begins....

We're 98% done with the planning, contracts have been signed, deposits made & now waiting on the permitting process to complete. It's show time! ....let the wrecking ball swing!

First, some pictures of what the house looks like now. ...'cause it aint gonna look like this for much longer!
